The Nordic Centre of Excellence Programme on Food, Nutrition and Health
The Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) Programme on Food, Nutrition and Health was launched as a start of a joint effort to enhance the scientific quality and international visibility of Nordic research within this field. With co-financing by Nordforsk and the National Research Councils, the NCoE Programme will run in 2007-2011. The total annual funding will be up to 18 MNOK (approx. 2.3 million EURO).
HELGA: Nordic Health — Whole grain Food have been selected as one of three Nordic Centres of Excellence in Food, Nutrition and Health by Nordforsk. The project is co-ordinated by Anne Tjønneland, Danish Cancer Society, Copenhagen.
The aim of HELGA is to generate knowledge about the health effects of whole grain foods by establishing a close research network between existing scientific expert groups in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The ultimate goal of HELGA is to establish a solid and comprehensive foundation for whole grain research, uncover in depth the health effects of whole grains and to make this knowledge available and lucid to consumers. HELGA will join expert scientists from the scientific fields of biomarker research, clinical trials, biobank-based epidemiology and anthropology.
